Rebecca Tonkin

I am a family law solicitor with over 15 years of post-qualification experience specialising in care, adoption, special guardianship and private law proceedings. I have been a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel since 2013, which means that I can represent children within court proceedings. I regularly act for parents, grandparents or any other person that has an interest in Child Protection matters. I have wealth of experience of cases involving child protections issues as a result of drug and alcohol abuse, non-accidental injuries, sexual abuse, domestic abuse and mental health. I regularly appear at court to provide advocacy for my clients.

I am also experienced with working with people who have learning difficulties and work hard to make my advice understandable and straightforward. I regularly work with teenage parents. I understand this is a daunting process and I am here to guide you through it. I am sensitive to cultural issues and have handled cases with international elements.

Prior to relocating to the North East I was a Partner at a multidisciplinary solicitors’ firm in Cumbria managing their successful family department. I achieved Legal 500 status for the department.
